A 6-inch standard pipe post connects to structural steel framing to support a fall protection system with a maximum ultimate load of 5 kips. The pipe is welded to a 3/4-inch base plate that matches the manufacturer plate, with a 1/2-inch fillet weld indicated at the connection. The post extends a maximum of 1 foot 6 inches above the top of steel, verified with the architect. The supporting beam web is reinforced with full-depth 3/8-inch stiffener plates on each side, welded with 1/4-inch fillet welds on three sides typical. An intersecting beam connects per plan with connections per specification 05201. Fall protection systems and connections to the post and base are provided by others.
