An HSS14x10 torsion member connects to a wide-flange column using a vertical plate welded to the end of the hollow structural section with a half-inch fillet weld. Top and bottom horizontal connection angles measuring 4x4x3/4 by one foot long bolt the plate to the column flanges using four seven-eighths inch diameter A325-N bolts with standard holes. Five-eighths inch full-width stiffener plates weld inside the column flanges aligned with the connection angles using three-eighths inch welds at the top and bottom. Additional quarter-inch typical fillet welds secure the internal stiffeners to the column web and flanges.
