These plan details show steel moment connections for wide flange beams framing into wide flange and hollow structural section box columns where the beam flanges exceed the width of the column. Horizontal plates are welded across the top and bottom of the beam flanges, with thicknesses sized to the beam flange plus one-eighth inch and a minimum width of two inches. Complete joint penetration welds connect the plates and beam flanges to the column sections as specified in the rigid frame details. A minimum one-inch clearance is maintained at the column web conditions.
