A joist girder rests on a bearing plate system divided into a fixed side and a slip side. The slip side incorporates a one-half inch Teflon-coated bearing assembly secured with two three-quarter inch diameter A325 bolts installed in three-inch long slots, tightened finger-tight with scored threads to allow for thermal movement. A three-eighths inch cap plate sits atop the girder, requiring a minimum four-inch bearing on the plate. The connection features a three-quarter inch thick thru-plate and stabilizer plates measuring three-quarters by eight inches by ten inches on the slip side and three-quarters by eleven inches by ten inches on the fixed side. All stabilizer plates remain unwelded to the girder to accommodate movement, with typical three-sixteenths inch and one-quarter inch fillet welds used elsewhere in the assembly.
