A reinforced concrete stair on grade features number three bars at twelve inches on center and number four bars at sixteen inches on center at the bottom, supplemented by number four bars below each riser. A typical number three nosing bar is placed at each tread edge, and the lower landing includes two number four bottom reinforcing bars. A continuous three-quarter-inch by five-inch keyway connects the stair to the building wall or cheek wall, anchored by number four dowels at twelve inches on center with standard hooks. Where a cheek wall is required, an eight-inch thick concrete wall is reinforced with number four bars at twelve inches on center each way. All rebar splices utilize a six-inch minimum class 'A' lap splice.
