A structural steel beam web penetration is reinforced with three-inch by one-half-inch Grade 50 top and bottom plates on each side of the beam web. The opening has a typical one-half-inch radius at the corners. A quarter-inch fillet weld connects the stiffener plates to the beam web. Penetrations are centered at half the beam depth unless noted otherwise.
