This assembly supports a metal roof deck at a structural expansion joint using a steel joist braced against a support beam. The joist is connected to a one-half inch by five inch by five foot plate, which is bolted to the support beam using one-inch diameter bolts. An L4x4x5/16 angle brace provides lateral stability between the joist and the beam web. A stiffener plate with a minimum thickness of one-half inch is required at the beam web, as specified in the general structural notes. Expansion joint dimensions and specific plate and deck connection requirements are referenced to detail 11 on sheet SE702.
