A hollow structural section steel column connects to a steel base plate resting on a one-and-a-half-inch layer of non-shrink grout above a concrete footing. The base plate is secured with hooked anchor bolts embedded into the concrete footing. A fillet weld size of five-sixteenths connects the steel column to the base plate. A concrete blockout surrounds the column base within the concrete slab on grade.
