Cold-formed steel studs, joists, and rafters feature web penetrations centered in the web with minimum spacing requirements. Penetrations with a diameter less than or equal to one inch require no reinforcement unless noted otherwise. Larger penetrations are reinforced using a steel plate spanning the full width of the member and measuring at least three times the penetration diameter. The plate gauge matches the stud or joist, secured with number eight screws at four inches on center along all four edges.
