Two aligned hollow structural section members are joined end-to-end with a maximum half-inch gap at the splice location. Two one-inch by one-and-three-quarter-inch by one-foot-six-inch long splice plates are welded to each side of the hollow structural section members. One-quarter-inch fillet welds secure the plates with specified spacings and lengths on each side.
