Continuity plates are welded inside or against the steel column flanges and web to resist high local flange forces. One-half inch thick continuity plates are detailed symmetrically about the column centerline with one-inch clearances indicated. Fillet welds of quarter-inch and five-sixteenths inch sizes connect the plates to the column flanges and web.
