A twelve-inch concrete masonry unit wall incorporates a vertical control joint fitted with a four-foot-six-inch smooth dowel greased on one end and accompanied by diagonal reinforcement matching the wall horizontal reinforcing. Horizontal reinforcement stops at the control joint with typical hooked ends. Two number five vertical reinforcing bars are placed on each face adjacent to the joint. A standard masonry corner detail includes a twenty-four-inch minimum hook length equal to thirty-six bar diameters.
