A reinforced concrete grade beam connects to an existing twenty-four-inch diameter concrete pile. The upper portion of the existing pile is chipped away to expose the reinforcement, which must be protected during preparation before re-casting the joint monolithically with the grade beam. Hooked dowels match the grade beam reinforcing and extend through the joint with stirrups carried continuously across the connection. The grade beam reinforcement ties into the pile head with a specified lap splice length beyond the joint interface.
