Horizontal ClarkDietrich Danback plywood backing or a 2x6 fire-retardant-treated wood backing spans between cold-formed steel wall studs. Each stud connection utilizes three number 8 wafer head or pan head screws placed at the center and one-half inch from the top and bottom plate edges. As an alternate method, a 12 gauge by 5-inch by 9-inch steel plate is secured to each backing piece using four number 12 hex head wood screws.
