This assembly details a splice for a steel ledger member spanning between vertical studs. A three-eighths inch steel plate is centered at the splice location, providing a two-inch overlap on each side of the joint. The ledger is secured to the splice plate with three-sixteenths inch fillet welds applied to the sides, typical at each splice. A minimum three-inch clearance is maintained between the splice and the adjacent stud. Stud spacing is determined per the project plans, and ledger attachment to the studs is also governed by the structural plans.
