A structural steel diagonal brace frames into a gusset plate welded to the web of a supporting steel beam. Three-eighths-inch thick stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web to reinforce the connection. Five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds secure the plates typically along three sides. The steel beam supports a metal deck with a concrete slab above.
