Steel column continuity plates are positioned on both sides of the column web with a thickness based on the connecting beam flanges. The continuity plate includes a cope left unwelded at the web, maintaining a one-half-inch clearance per AISC dimension k1. An additional one-and-one-half-inch clearance is maintained per AISC dimension k from the column flange. Fillet welds secure the plates as indicated by the typical callouts.
