A wide flange beam frames into a wide flange column via a welded shear plate connecting the beam web. A one-half inch cap plate sits atop the column secured with quarter-inch fillet welds. Four bolts fasten the beam web to the shear plate with a three-inch center-to-center spacing and one-and-three-quarter-inch end distances. Welds are omitted at the column and beam k-regions to prevent stress concentrations.
