A structural steel column section is welded to a square steel base plate with perimeter anchor bolts and a central grout hole. The column flanges and web connect to the base plate using quarter-inch fillet welds with specified partial penetration welds designated as tw-one-quarter at the web and tf-one-quarter typical at the flanges. All column welds to the base plate are designated as demand critical welds. Anchor bolts are arranged symmetrically with edge distances of four and five inches along the length and width dimensions sized per elevation.
