Small unreinforced penetrations in metal deck profiles are positioned within low flutes and random locations based on maximum web and flute cut limits. Holes up to thirteen inches in diameter or square are permitted when centered on the deck low flute, with maximum cuts spanning up to two webs and one low flute. Smaller holes up to six inches maximum require no reinforcing when located at random. These configuration rules allow minor mechanical and electrical penetrations through composite metal deck profiles without triggering secondary structural framing.
