Steel bar joists bear on the top flange of a structural steel girder with two three-quarter-inch diameter A307 bolts securing joists directly adjacent to each side of the column when no joists land at the column. A plate measuring 4 inches by 7/8 inches by 2 feet 5 inches in Grade 50 steel is welded with a five-sixteenth-inch fillet weld 14 inches long for detail 7A, while detail 7 uses a 4-inch by 1/4-inch by 9-inch plate welded with a three-sixteenth-inch fillet weld 4 inches long. Additional welded connections follow Steel Joist Institute specifications, and a welded girder brace is installed as required by the manufacturer to brace the girder. Plywood sheathing and wood nailers sit atop the joist assembly as detailed on shop drawings.
