A steel beam web connects to an hollow structural section column using a welded shear plate and a vertical row of bolts sized per schedule. The shear plate is fillet-welded to the hollow structural section column face and field-bolted to the beam web with a maximum three and a half inch clearance dimension. Fillet welds connect the shear plate to the column as indicated by the weld symbol.
