This connection utilizes a wide-flange beam attached to a steel column via shear plates on each side of the beam web, secured with thru-bolts as specified in the project schedule. The shear plates are fabricated from ASTM A572 50 ksi steel. A web doubler plate is installed to fill the gap between the shear plate and the beam web, welded all around to the beam web with a 3/16-inch fillet weld. Stiffener plates are provided by others at the column flange locations. A diagonal brace connects to the assembly via a gusset plate, with a maximum 1-inch clearance between the brace connection and the beam flange.
