A 600T200-54 steel track, measuring 6 inches by 16 gauge minimum, serves as horizontal backing between vertical steel studs and must extend past three studs minimum while remaining at least one stud past each side of any connection point. The backing flanges are coped at each vertical stud intersection. Three number 10 sheet metal screws fasten the backing to each stud connection point. The vertical steel studs are sized per the plan or framing elevation. A note specifies to leave the backing uncut and unnotched except as detailed.
