A structural steel stair post is welded to a base plate using three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on both sides, bearing on a one-half-inch slide bearing pad over a quarter-inch base plate. The assembly is anchored to concrete using one-half-inch concrete screw anchors with four and one-quarter inches of minimum embedment, typically spaced with three-inch and one-and-a-half-inch edge dimensions. Additional quarter-inch plates measuring one and one-half inches wide provide stiffening and support around the post base.
