A structural steel beam connects to a supporting beam or member through a shear tab connection designed for a nominal gap greater than three inches with a one-inch minimum clearance. A cut-to-fit WT section, specifically a WT5x22.5 or WT7x26.5, is utilized as an intermediate adapter element welded with one-quarter inch fillets on two or three sides as indicated. The intersecting structural beam is sized per plan and attached using standard bolts through the shear tab connection specified per schedule. The assembly includes no slotted holes and maintains a top of steel elevation referenced from plan.
