An HSS beam connects to an HSS post via a 3/8-inch bent plate welded to the post with a 5/16-inch fillet weld on two sides. A 1/4-inch cap plate matches the HSS beam dimensions and is welded using a partial penetration weld. Two 3/4-inch diameter end-welded studs attach to the bottom of the HSS beam. A 3/8-inch stiffener plate, centered between the welded studs, provides additional support to the connection.
