An existing steel column extends above the station roof, which consists of cellular concrete topping on steel deck. The existing steel cap plate is removed and the column end is prepared for full bearing per American Institute of Steel Construction requirements. A web splice plate and bolts are installed per the type 2 steel column splice table. Flanges are joined with complete-joint-penetration welds at each column flange, supplemented by five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds.
