A steel roof beam frames into one side of a steel column flange using a bolted shear connection plate. A one-half-inch cap plate sits atop the steel column with a three-sixteenth-inch typical fillet weld. Internal stiffener plates align with the beam flanges inside the steel column web to handle concentrated loads from the roof framing. Corrugated steel deck bears across the top of the assembly adjacent to the column.
