An HSS beam frames into an HSS column using top and bottom structural angles spanning the column width. The connection is detailed with a maximum one-half inch clearance between the beam end and the column face on the larger side of the HSS unless noted otherwise. Five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds connect the angles to the column on both sides typically. One-quarter-inch fillet welds secure the angles to the top and bottom of the HSS beam flange on three sides typically.
