This structural detail defines the design movement tolerances for a building expansion joint. The joint accommodates a displacement of plus or minus three inches in the perpendicular direction. It simultaneously accommodates a parallel movement of plus or minus three inches. A reference dimension of four hundred twenty-six feet and two and one-half inches is indicated.
