An HSS beam connects to a wide flange column using L4x4x1/2 structural angles welded to both the top and bottom of the beam. The connection to the column flange utilizes top and bottom angles sized to the column width minus one and a half inches, secured with five-sixteenth-inch welds on both sides. The connection to the column web uses angles sized to the column depth minus two and a half times the design dimension k, similarly welded. A maximum one-half-inch clearance is maintained between the beam end and the column face. Fillet welds of one-quarter-inch and five-sixteenth-inch sizes are specified on multiple sides as indicated.
