A rectangular penetration is cut into the web of a wide flange beam supporting a concrete slab over metal deck. Top and bottom reinforcement plates are welded to each side of the beam web above and below the penetration. Two additional shear studs per foot are provided over the length of the opening. Edge clearances and plate dimensions are sized per the structural schedule.
