An HSS4x4x1/4 hollow structural section column spans between upper and lower structural steel beams supporting concrete over metal deck slabs. The top of the HSS column connects to a quarter-inch by five-inch by one-foot-six-inch plate secured with two five-eighths-inch by four-inch expansion anchors centered in the deck flute, joined with three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds. The bottom of the column attaches via a three-eighths-inch by five-inch by zero-foot-eight-inch embed plate with two five-eighths-inch by four-inch welded studs centered in the deck flute. An intermediate HSS louver support framing member connects to the main column using quarter-inch by three-inch plates on each side with three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds, featuring a three-sixteenths-inch cap plate with a seal weld all around. Section A-A details the vertical splice configuration utilizing quarter-inch by three-inch by zero-foot-six-and-a-half-inch plates on each side with two three-quarter-inch machine bolts typical on both plates and three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds.
