A steel beam frames into a column with a cap plate and cross plate matching the thickness of the column web, ranging from one-quarter inch minimum to one-half inch maximum. Connection plates are welded to the assembly using a one-quarter inch fillet weld on each side as specified. Double rows of high-strength bolts secure the beam webs to the connection plates on each side of the column. Additional dimensions and connection requirements are referenced to sheet S5.1.
