An expansion joint filler is installed within a two-inch nominal gap between adjacent concrete or shotcrete walls containing continuous reinforcing steel bars. The joint is spaced at one-hundred-foot intervals per the reference notes for the shotcrete subcontractor. The detail indicates the joint width with a tolerance and shows the termination of the horizontal reinforcing bars on each side of the separation.
