A slab step transition occurs over a steel beam supporting composite metal deck. An angle or bent plate with a three-eighths-inch minimum thickness is provided to fit depressions for steps of four inches or less, while larger steps require a wide-flange bolster located along the beam centerline. Continuous number four reinforcing bars spaced at twelve inches minimum are placed with ninety-degree hooked ends. Concrete fill is applied where the slab step is far from the beam edge, detailed per structural plans. A one-quarter-inch fillet weld secures the connection components along the beam span.
