An exterior pile cap transitions into a mat slab with a six-inch thickened edge below the slab. The assembly features pile cap reinforcement tied to vertical pile reinforcement that extends fifteen inches into the mat slab. Additional bottom bars are provided on either side of the vertical pile reinforcement in both directions. Horizontal construction joints are specified with a roughened finish to a quarter-inch amplitude. Top and bottom reinforcement utilize number eight bars spaced at twelve inches on center outside the pile cap, with number nine bars typically at the piles and z-bars bent at the thickened edge.
