An HSS column connects to the underside of a concrete slab via a welded base plate and bolted side plates. Two 3/8-inch by 5-inch by 0'-8" plates are welded to each side of the column with vertical fillet welds and secured using two 7/8-inch diameter through bolts at 4-inch gauge, run finger tight with a jam nut. A 1-inch gap is maintained between the column top and the embed plate, which features welded studs embedded in the slab above. Fillet welds connect the top plate of the column assembly.
