A braced frame column with its base plate is centered within a concrete block-out, detailed with smooth surfaces on all four sides and a bond breaker applied prior to pouring concrete. Control joints align with the column line and feature flexible foam isolation joint filler products such as Ceramara or Deck-O-Foam by W.R. Meadows. Additional reinforcement consists of two number 4 rebars, three feet long typically, placed symmetrically with equal spacing. A supplemental detail shows a joint filler sealant over a quarter-inch continuous sheet of flexible foam.
