An HSS 10x8 hollow structural section column is welded to a 2 inch by 11 inch by 16 inch steel base plate using a complete joint penetration weld with a backing bar. The base plate bears on one and a half inches of non-shrink grout over the top of the concrete foundation. Anchor rods embedded in the concrete foundation extend upward through the base plate and are secured with nuts and washers.
