A handrail post is inserted into a pipe sleeve that fits tight with the guardrail and is embedded within a reinforced concrete slab and stem wall foundation. The assembly rests on a 6-inch thick concrete slab reinforced with number 3 bars at 18 inches on center each way. The stem wall measures 10 inches wide with a 3-inch minimum clearance typical and is reinforced with number 4 bars at 18 inches on center and continuous number 4 bars at 12 inches on center. The bottom of the pipe sleeve is welded to a 3-inch by 3-inch by 1/4-inch steel plate, and the interior annular space of the sleeve is filled with non-shrink grout. The handrail height and configuration are coordinated per architectural drawings.
