A wide-flange beam connects to a wide-flange column using top and bottom plates welded to the column flanges with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on three sides. A vertical shear plate bolts to the beam web with a typical three-inch center-to-center fastener spacing. Top and bottom plate thicknesses vary from one-half inch to three-quarters of an inch depending on whether dimension D is less than or equal to eighteen inches or greater than eighteen inches. A two-inch clearance and dimension K are maintained at the beam web and flange interface.
