A one-half inch by four-and-a-half-inch bent steel plate forms the ballast retainer and is provided in fifteen-foot lengths, hot-dip galvanized after fabrication. The plate mounts onto precast concrete segments measuring four inches thick with a three-foot vertical height leg and a six-inch horizontal leg. Connection is made using three-quarter-inch diameter bolts with inserts having a five-inch embedment into the precast units. Bolt spacing is set at six inches on center.
