A hollow structural section beam frames into the web of a wide flange beam, supported by three-eighths-inch-thick stiffener plates located on each side of the hollow structural section beam. The top of the hollow structural section is coped as required to fit the wide flange beam geometry. The hollow structural section is welded to the stiffeners with a minimum one-quarter-inch fillet weld, and the stiffeners are welded to the wide flange beam on three sides with a one-quarter-inch fillet weld. The larger side of the hollow structural section is oriented vertically unless noted otherwise.
