Reinforcing steel bars overlap within structural concrete members using a Class "A" lap splice. The overlapping bars maintain a minimum clear distance of one and one-half inches. Splice lengths measure a minimum of twelve bar diameters or twelve inches, whichever is greater. These lap splice requirements apply to boundary elements, columns, beams, walls, and slabs.
