An existing wide flange beam connects to a hollow structural section column via three-eighths-inch plates located on each side. A one-inch diameter A325 through-bolt passes through a long slotted hole in the connection plates to allow movement. Fillet welds of one-quarter-inch size secure the connection elements to the structural members typical.
