A steel beam bears directly onto a steel cap plate sized per the column schedule, welded to the top of a steel column sized per plan and schedule. A beam web stiffener or beam web connection plate is provided on each side, welded to the beam web with one-quarter-inch fillet welds. The cap plate is secured to the column with welds indicated by standard welding symbols. The beam bottom flange connects through the cap plate using a bolted assembly, while the top of the beam assembly incorporates a three-sided weld configuration.
