The steel column is supported by a base plate anchored into a concrete plinth, with one and one-half inches of non-shrink grout provided between the plate and the top of the concrete. The assembly includes anchor bolts extending into the plinth, which is set at a top of concrete elevation eight inches below the slab on grade. All steel surfaces located below grade are to be coated with an asphaltic emulsion for corrosion protection.
