Two hollow structural section members align end-to-end with a half-inch maximum joint gap where the field splice occurs. Steel splice plates measuring one inch by one and three-quarters by one foot six inches long attach to each side of the structural tubes. Fillet welds connect the splice plates with one-quarter inch sizing typical on each plate. Section C-C confirms the profile of the structural steel tube and the side plate placement.
